Coleen's the bookies favourite at Aintree

Coleen Rooney was always odds-on to take the limelight at Ladies Day.

But pundits and bookies were left shocked when she turned up in a simple black dress for the most important fashion date in the horse racing calendar.

Traditionally, the wife of United star Wayne wears "spring" colours and this year bookies taking good money on bets for pastel tones or rich colours.

But the 24-year-old WAG and model arrived at Aintree with her entourage in a black, satin, Matthew Williamson mini-dress and black Christian Louboutin shoes with their trademark red soles.

Coleen said: "I've never worn black before and I thought this year I would go for something different.

"I usually wear colourful dresses, but I'll be wearing something colourful tomorrow.

"I love long dresses because they are easy to wear. I've worn something long nearly every year I've been here.

"There are so many different styles at Aintree and everyone makes a big effort. I come every year on Friday and Saturday. I totally love it and this is my seventh year.”

And she is hoping to back at winner today for the Grand National.

"I don't normally look at all the odds when I'm picking a horse, I just ask my dad.

"I picked out the winner last year and that those was 50-1, so you never know what might happen."

Coleem had been tipped to wear the colour "nude", with the bookmakers offering 5/2 and 5/4 on purple.

George Primarolo, of Totesport, said money came in on black after Coleen's husband's Manchester United team were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

He said: "Black was at 5/1. We did have a few bets on black because United were knocked of out Europe and people were thinking she would be in mourning.

"There is always a good response to this kind of bet, the fashion bet.

We are not talking huge sums and we have probably broken even on it."
